I found this article very interesting and useful. Not a tech-oriented person, I lean heavily on others to learn about new and interesting software. In this list of extensions, I was only aware of Grammarly. Time to try some of the others!

SEO Made Simple for the Lay Digital Writer

SEO or Search Engine Optimisation is the magic term describing the process that is used to help an article or website or content rank high on the search engine.

When you search for a phrase, (called Keyword in search terminology) say Masala Dosa, even before you type out the complete term, Google starts prompting with a number of possible combinations. It is uncanny and scary as if Google understands you. I am typing from Bengaluru and Google has included a couple of Kannada variation search phrases as well though I typed in English.

Then I proceed to the first page, and there are both content pages and video. So typically a reader, unless very dissatisfied will not even venture into the second page of the search results.

Supposing, I have written on masala dosa. I obviously want as many visitors to my blog post as possible. Then logically I need to be seen on the first page of the search results. But there must be lakhs of sites with articles, videos on masala dosa.

So in terms of probability, my chances seem slim.

Solution? SEO.

SEO, when done right will help your article/website appear on the first page, and the more the number of visitors, the more the chances that someone will click on an ad or buy your product or subscribe to your service.

That is your side of the story.

Listen to Google’story….

From the millions of websites, Google seeks out exactly what the reader needs and takes pride in delivering it to him in the shortest possible time. Faster than Usain Bolt by leaps and bounds! What say!!

To this end it uses a variety of factors, also called algorithm, which enables it to figure out which sites to rank on the first page and so on.

Mission: To be ranked / Show up on the First Page of Google

There are three aspects to getting indexed on Google. One of the key aspects is content. Let us understand this.

  • Everything starts with content and there is no compromise for good quality, detailed, and most importantly original content. No plagiarised content, please.
  • This content has to be updated at regular intervals -in order to retain relevance- and kept fresh.
  • You can also answer queries and provided your answers are jargon-free and simplified, your website or page might show up on the first page.
  • Now, for the vital step. You have to decide on the keywords that are important for that topic and ensure that your articles contain that keyword. (Remember the masala dosa).
  • The title obviously has to contain that keyword. The keyword needs to be sprinkled all over the article starting with the introduction and enough times in the body and finally also in the conclusion.
  • SEO experts say that the optimum ratio of keywords in a post is between 8-12%.
  • Less than 5% and the article sure wouldn’t rank anywhere in the first few pages.
  • More than 12% and the article would seem spammy and the content stuffed and created for the search engine. Google has become smarter and each algorithm revision makes it more so.
  • When optimizing content for Search Engine, ensure that the post is detailed and full of valuable content that solves the reader’s pain points. At the same time, short sentences and crisp clear language used to convey the information.
  • To understand the pain points of the readers, a lot of research needs to be done. Google suggest, forums, answerthepublic are places on the internet that are useful for this purpose.
  • Did I make it sound too simple? In reality, you will have to use SEO and keyword search tools to check what the keywords for your specific category are, what are the keywords that your highest-ranking competitor is ranking for, what are the keywords that you want to rank for. Here walks in the content writer who creates content keeping all this in mind.
  • SEMRUSH and Ahref are the frequently used tools. Both have their own specialties. Ubersuggest by Neil Patel is another good tool and it is also free.
  • SEO is not a one-time affair. The web pages that rank high on Google are the ones that keep updating, finetuning, optimizing in order to retain their ranking.

So now it must be quite clear as to what SEO can do for you?

  • SEO can get you on the front page of the search results.
  • SEO can get you free organic traffic.
  • SEO can get you long-term traffic.
  • SEO can get engagement from your leaders.
  • SEO can increase traffic and thereby increase selling opportunities for you, your company, or affiliate products.
  • SEO can increase your ad revenue.

SEO is crucial and I hope that this article helped in simplifying SEO. Even if you write the best article but it if is not optimized, all that effort is down a drain.

Therefore it is imperative for a digital writer to master SEO and write content that is optimized in order to earn the love of the reader and Google.

Google realizes that a lot of content and can be manipulated and keywords forcibly fitted in to suit the search engine. Therefore it also gives importance to two other elements which are Inbound Links and engagement. But that is for another post.

So if the article was useful please like it and add your insights on SEO. Would love to hear from you.

As the name suggests, shortcut means lesser effort for more productivity. Who doesn’t want to put less effort and get the same or an even better result? In this article, we are going to talk about 15 keyboard hacks or shortcuts that will make your life super easy and also will save lots of your precious time.

1. Whenever we are typing, finishing a project, an assignment or whatever it may be, we need to keep many tabs or windows open to research, use a browser, play music and all of this becomes a mess, it adds stress and also decreases your productivity rate.

The solution is simply windows+control+d. This will just let you switch to a fresh new desktop.

2.  It is very painful for any computer user to lose the work he has done. If it is gone, it is gone forever and is also extremely time-consuming to search for the lost file or photos or anything of that sort.

Well, Windows key control and using arrow marks are the key for locating files and documents. When you are done with the task you can close it by using the keys windows key +control+F4

3. Many a time there are many tabs which we are using simultaneously and all the tabs or windows are always behind one another. When we need to minimize, it becomes a hassle because we have to locate the window and then minimize it. It becomes a difficult process if we need to minimize 10 tabs.

Using windows key +M allows you to close any number of tabs in a single go. Now if you want to take a sneak peek you can use window key +comma.

4. On a computer there are always certain apps that we use the most and there are certain apps that we use sometimes. You can create a taskbar and keep the most used apps there. You can even use windows key along with a number key from one to nine. Here each number has a designated app which it is representing.

5. Many times we wish we could use the split-screen function for more productivity. This is a very easy and uncomplicated trick, all you have to do is open one app, now press the windows key and the left arrow; at the same time open another app and press the windows key and the right arrow, with this you can work with two apps simultaneously.

6.There is always a need of shifting tabs and there are many ways to do it. But the next time when you want to switch between tabs you can consider using Control+ALT+TAB. This will show all the apps which are currently running on your device.

7. Many times, we humans make mistakes and computers are just machines built by humans. So they can give trouble. Sometimes when one is working and a program just stops working and you don’t know how to put that back in place, even if you beg, cry, or even try to bribe it, it is not going to work. The only solution left is to restart your device and this again takes a lot of precious time. To save time and make your life hassle-free you can use control+shift+escape and this will open the task manager and you can close the programs which are not responding.

8. This trick helps you to easily open your file explorer. All you have to do is press the Windows key +E

9. Sometimes you have to look at certain images and the image is really small. It becomes a difficult process to observe minute details from small images. You just need to magnify it. Yes, you don’t need a magnifier.

All you need to do is press the windows key combined with a + or – key. This allows you to magnify the image as per your requirements.

10. Imagine you are in an online seminar and a person is presenting some really cool statistics and you have to take a screenshot. You can easily take a screenshot by using the Windows key along with the print screen key. Now you can save it wherever or however you want.

11. You can use your device as a hotspot and you can access WI-FI and you can also turn on Bluetooth from the action center of the device.

To open it you have to press the windows key and A simultaneously.

12. This cool trick allows you to access your setting easily. Settings is the place where you can totally control your computer as per your choice. You can control brightness, volume, network, files, and so on.

You have to just use the windows key +I and that’s all you need to do to open your system settings.

13. Voice assistants make our lives much easier. All you have to do is just access them and give them a voice command and your job is done. This assistant is called Cortana and to access it, you have to just press the Windows key and I simultaneously.

14. You are completing projects, building software, attending seminars; basically working hard all day and you want to take off the stress by playing games on your device. You can access the windows game bar and all you have to do to open this is that you have to press the Windows key + G.

15. You are doing some confidential work on your device regarding your bank account and similar stuff and you don’t want anyone to have a glance at your personal information. You can just lock your computer by pressing the windows key+L and your screen gets locked, thus keeping your information safe.

Adopt these shortcuts and enjoy the time that you save. Also, do not forget to pull your collars up in front of your friends with the new skills that you have acquired.
