It was a regular rainy day in July of 2015 and I felt tired after having a heavy workload at my vocational training.

My eyes were searching for auto in a Chandra Vihar. I was a little shivering. My clothes were all drenched with rain.

Then I heard a voice with the auto-rickshaw coming towards me. I (recognize) her voice and my smile almost reached my ears.

Auto rickshaw stopped and she grabbed me inside the auto and I speak out loud

“Navya, easy bae I am not going anywhere.”

“Of course you don’t Shruti.”

“Not bad your entry was life-saving” I praised.

Her dimples appear beautifully.

(It was a 1-hour journey and I got my old buddy. It was just like two birds chirping on a tree.)

“Have you ever got stuck with someone like this before?”

I beamed,

“yup I did,” she yelled.

“So he was your crush?” I asked.

The journey sped up with her answer.

“It was an incident from last month.” she trumpeted.

(her gestures were depicting the story.)

As a writer, I was trying to mirror her emotions into a picture.

(Seen began with the road rush in a Sadar Bazar, two people were rushing to catch a taxi even though they didn’t know that both were coming to each other.

One taxi stopped for them both quickly entered into it. A guy accidentally crushes her toe with his shoe.

She screamed and said out loud “can’t you see you are crushing my fingers.”

He acted so quick and said, “omg I am so sorry I didn’t mean to hurt you.”

That guy was wearing shaded sunglasses in a cloudy weather jawline was covered in a beard.

She looked at him again and his face looked like. Like whatever?

“I remembered he was the guy from KV3 who took my notebook and never gave it back,” she confirms.

(I smiled and she continued)

“Utkarsh Singhal, is that you?” she said

He removed his sunglasses and looked at her

yup, ( he unlocked his phone to get into the gallery, he found our group pictures and zoomed in to confirm)

“Navya, I thought you left Jhansi”

“Who told you that I left?” she investigated.

He remains silent

( I saw navy smiling a bit while speaking, I saw her as a visual storyteller.)

“Did you miss something to give back?” she exclaimed.

“Yeah, I am sorry for the notebook. I should have called you, it wasn’t easy to get your number.” he soothed.

(She said in her head, “you should have asked your eavesdropper gang, who knows everything.”)

( It’s been 5 years since I tried so hard to find you, what a coincidence” he said in his head too.)

“That’s insane”. He whispered.

“What? Navya asked”.

It was a sudden drift and the breeze we both were shivering.

We felt like someone had bucketed down on the top of an auto. All the loopholes expanded now water was coming from the top also.

He uncapped his water bottle and held it near the leakage to prevent me from drowning.

She laughed at him.

“That was too sweet,” I teased her.

(The driver was smiling by watching us from his front mirror,

Mood lighting was flourished by the rain and the fav song of a driver.

“Mausam hai bheega bheega…..)

we were getting late,

So he shut down his music and turn his auto to the non-busy road,

Utkarsh put his earbud in my left ear, and then he insisted.

“On this road, there is a Dhaba, if you want to eat something I will buy it for you.”

(Auto stopped at the Dhaba and we ate some snacks.

He clicked her picture on his smart phone)

“Can have your number Navya”. He requested.

“That was it,” she finished.

“Did you give him your phone number?”

“yay”. She confirmed.

“But where is that notebook?”

(she swallowed the whole issue and said)

“Now it’s your turn, shruti”.

(She was ready to hear from me

, I smiled a bit.)

“Last month I went to Mathura for 3 days and all this happened.

I took her on the nostalgic trip

“May I have your attention please train no. 12280, New delhi (NDLS) TO JHANSI JN (JHS)

is arrived on platform no. 2”

I mimic.

“oh no, it’s been so long I want to travel by train,” she said.

“We will plan someday” I was trying to distract her.

“Believe me you have no chance to escape, so tell me the whole,” she yelled at me.

“The morning weather was so beautiful, kids were playing, the bird was tweeting

a wet breeze passes from my ear to ear.

It was a mizzle even though there were heavy clouds, as God was waiting to shower the special someone.”

I narrated.

My reservation confirmed that I got the desired window seat. I was about to settle down then

I saw someone’s hands holding a kulhadd inside a window grill.

, he requested in his husky voice,

“Please can you hold them for a minute?”

( We heard the announcement of the departure. The light drops turned into heavy rain. The train started moving slowly, even though I was worried about him for a sec.)

I felt the warmth of the kulhadd (clay cup), I was still confused.

“Strange why he brought two, Shruti?” she asked me.

“Oh, so a stranger is trying to impress me?

(He came inside and settled down)

“Let’s have tea,” he said.

I didn’t deny it as I was feeling cold too.)

While drinking I noticed his face looked the same as our vice-captain at our school KV3.

“I remember when he was checking my nails

in the school assembly, Priyansh saved me from punishment once.”

Both get terrified when the tunnel comes and all gets darker, shruti holds his hands tightly, the tunnel passes away and everything gets back to normal for them but we were still holding each other’s hand, the kid on an upper seat saw us and giggled.

I pulled my hand, and he scolded

Him: “If I ask you to narrate a table of 17 you will stammer.”

(The kid, shrinking his cheeks, went back to his seat.

I laughed so hard.)

“It was a dream come true having my old crush in front of me offering me tea.”

The train stopped at Jhansi station, I got a notification from FB.

He didn’t say anything to me but turned around to see me again.

He was in a hurry and he forgot his coin on the floor.

“It felt unreal, the most intelligent and introverted guy from our school had a crush on me too.”

“Wow, shruti Have you accepted his friend request or not?” She examines.

(I remain silent)

“look who is blushing without touchup?” She teased me.

“Shut up” I encountered.

After having a long conversation with her we still have secrets.

@bindu-gadde Wow !!! What a beautiful and pure love story. The longing in separation can be heart-wrenching.

Also, now I really want to see the rainbow on the Milky Waterfalls 🙂

@aleemahmed-khan Loooove the narrative!! This was like one of the stories that always gravitated towards as a child – adventure, mystery and the satisfaction of solving them and a little magic. Extended version please 🙂

@duraipandychelliah sir…. I found your family trip story to Kodaikanal very interesting and knowledgeable 😊 . I remember writing a story on Kodaikanal for my travel magazine, and Kodai was on my to-be-visited list when I was in Bangalore. Your Kodai description has made me recall my Bangalore days. I will surely visit this place one day. 🙂 🙂

@poulomi Glad to know that you too have been to Munnar… 😍 I think it is one of the best hill stations in the country, mostly because it has not been commercialised like the rest of the Indian hill stations 🙂 .

Your story aptly describes the pristine beauty of Munnar and why it continues to rule the roost when it comes to nature trips 😍 .

The Monsoon Story Writing competition watered the seeds of creativity in every Writopreneur and many beautiful stories bloomed in their narratives. 🌼

I joined the Digital Wriopreneur Hub only a month ago to get in touch with my writing skill and this contest was just the push that I needed.

It took me a long time to start writing my story for the competition as I was not able to decide what to write. Vamsidhar was the first participant to submit their work and it was a beautiful descriptive account of his family trip to the Chitrakot waterfalls. His write-up inspired me to share my own experience of a Monsoon Trek in the Nag Tibba. You can read the full story here.

As Mr Duraipandy predicted, only three or four stories were submitted, just three days before the deadline. But entries started pouring in after that and did not stop until the very last minute. The stories were a testament to how far the DWH students have grown and are now opening up to the magical world of writing. The participants had written on various topics ranging from travel stories and romantic memories to horror fiction.

By a majority of votes, Mansi was declared the reigning champion. You can read her real-life story about a heartwarming Monsoon gift here. Congratulations Mansi! 😊

I really enjoyed writing again after so many years and I will be eagerly waiting for the next month’s writing contest 👍
