Yesterday, we had a copywriting session with Rajinder sir, and here are the takeaways from that session.

The 5 Bad Elements of Copywriting

Most of the webpages get only a few seconds of attention. So, if you do not have an engaging copy and attractive content, no one will read your post. Today people scan webpages. They do not spend much time reading.

So, if you want your readers to become your loyal visitors or customers, you must know what mistakes you are making while writing an ad copy.

  1. Not Writing for a Niche Audience

You cannot make everyone happy. If you try to please everyone your conversion rate will be very low. Write for the targeted audience. It will give you the most conversions.

  1. Not Focusing on The Problems of your Prospects

You focus only on showing off your expertise or the features of your products.

Learn to say what your prospects want to hear. To grab their attention include a solution to their problem in your headline and tagline. “Stop being shy and face the camera with confidence. Introducing Cam Confidence App First Time in India

After this, you can expect most of them to read further.

Focus on benefits and not features. Features only describe your product and do not focus on the buyer. So, list the benefits and explain each one in detail.

  1. Not Creating Scannable Content

People scan webpages. They only read the headline and a few lines following it.

So, I am giving you six tips to help you make your content scannable:

  1. Give a complete idea of your service or product at the beginning only. Readers are looking for a solution. Provide them with the solution in just a few words if you want to attract them.
  2. You cannot include the entire information in the title and subtitle.  So, write important sentences in bold. Bold text attracts readers’ attention and they also remember it.
  3. Use readable font size.
  4. Use powerful adjectives to capture readers’ attention. Include them in your headings, subheadings, and main sentences. If you do not use action words, most of the time your content will not be read.
  5. Do not act like a salesperson. Speak to your reader by using personalized language. Use the power word ‘you’ to establish a personal connection with your reader.
  6. Drop the powerless words. These dilute the ultimate meaning of your copy and confuse your visitors. Instead use words, such as introducing, surprising, special, secret, hurry, guarantee, easy, or use words that sell. Suppose you are sharing an offer: This discount is available until 8 pm today.

Now how do you want your reader to feel? You want them to feel as if they are missing out on something exclusive so write your copy like this.

This exclusive limited-time offer is only available until 4 pm today. Act now!

  1. Not Focusing on Storytelling

Stories help to establish an emotional connection with your audience. Here the reader is the character of your story. With storytelling you make people relate to their problems. It will help them to realize how they can make their life better. You make them feel that this change is possible only with you.

  1. Not Editing and Proofreading Your Draft

Edit and proofread your copy before publishing. You can use various online tools, such as Grammarly, Hemingway app, and various plagiarism checker tools to edit your write-up. They will help you correct major mistakes. But, these tools are not 100% perfect. You cannot rely on them completely and also need a human read-through.

Conclusion

You are now aware of the don’ts of copywriting. But do not panic if you make these mistakes in the beginning when you are just learning to copywrite. Review your first draft and correct it before publishing.

Now in the next answer, I am going to teach you different styles of copies, such as direct from client copy, storytelling copy, multinational brand copy, and many others.

Did you like today’s session? If yes, please go to this link in our forum and write about your takeaways (https://rajindersoni.com/community/sample-1/review-and-feedback-on-live-classes-conducted-by-rajinder-soni-writers-coach/&source=gmail&ust=1613887576336000&usg=AFQjCNFaWZwMT2h6R4-c4DK-UgDKxzbih g”> https://rajindersoni.com/community/sample-1/review-and-feedback-on-live-classes-conducted-by-rajinder-soni-writers-coach/ ).

Keeping records of your learning and publishing them online is the best way to remember everything. In this way, you can also have space for discussions beyond this online room.
